National Geographic to Preserve Our Planet
Not to be left out of the recent environmental conservation programming niche, The National Geographic Channel is launching a mulitplatform initiative, Preserve Our Planet.
While their multiplatform strategy doesn't include a special TV series, The National Geographic channel is re-packaging their existing content and extending their educational reach beyond the screen. They're doing this by providing a template that can be localized and expanded into communities and schools (through cable affiliates and extensive sponsorable opportunities), as National Geographic has already done with the network's Everyday Explorer. But where Everyday Explorer is geared toward kids, Preserve Our Planet aims for a wider audience.
Preserve Our Planet will include:
- coverage of conservation-oriented events
- a series featuring conservation tips
- on-demand video content
- public-service announcements
- a website with tips, tools, public forums, resources, blogs etc.
Already up on the site are links to related content on other parts of NationalGeographic.com. The full roll-out of Preserve Our Planet is anticipated for this coming fall.
The National Geographic Channel was launched in 2001 by National Geographic Television and Film and Fox Cable Networks.
